The story opens with Nightcrawler borrowing the Blackbird, perhaps not in his right mind. Iceman is found out to be undergoing his secondary mutation. Xavier dispatches the X-men (Angel, Wolverine, Havoc, Iceman, Jubilee and Husk) to retrieve Nightcrawler and find out what is going on with him. Polaris gives the ok for a mind probe by the Professor in response to her aggressive behaviors. Xavier gives Cain the go ahead to journey to Vancouver and check on Sammy who it is feared is being abused by his father.
